New Year Poem: The Gate

The Gate

I paused at the gate of another new year,
Waiting to overcome my fear
Of starting something new,
Of leaving something old,
Of parting with the past,
And going somewhere bold.

I thought about the journey my life had plodded through,
Each twist and trail, and path and track;
Some places that I hardly knew,
Some places where I won’t be back;
Some roads I’ll never travel on,
Some lanes I’ll linger one by one.

And there, ahead of me, at Journey’s End,
Welcoming me to His holy place,
The One Who made my life begin.
In Christ, this journey starts afresh,
Where faith and hope embrace again,
Where Life and Love will never end.
