Instead of toys, we gave them guns
And looked with pride upon our sons
As they hunted targets, one by one,
And took them out till they were done,
A rite of passage, full of fun.
Instead of dolls, we gave them pearls
And proudly taught to all our girls
To idolize the right of choice,
And cancel out that inner noise,
A right to life, denied a voice.
All life is precious, every one,
A baby, a child, a daughter, or son.
Until we teach that lesson first,
The things that we all fear the worst
Will break our hearts, one by one.
